General
I run public Freeciv server instances.
In the metaservers they show up as Host:cazfi.net.
Topic contains game id, which I can later use to track down problems encountered.
All of these servers announce themselves to the
metaserver at meta.freeciv.org.
Ruleset or modpack name is mentioned in the topic and message.
In some cases you will want to download appropriate tilesets
(graphics for units, terrains, buildings...) to your client before playing
these custom rulesets and modpacks.
Wishes about different rulesets and modpacks, and other comments, should be posted to
Freeciv forums.
Freeciv bugfix releases never break compatibility between servers and clients. Any 2.6.a
client can connect any 2.6.b server. Latest Freeciv releases is 2.6.0.
Patches
See hosting for patches applied to our servers.
All servers have some logging improvements and such as required for running
servers automatically.
Settings
- Timeout cannot be set to -1. This is server for public games,
not for running AI simulations.
- Default minplayers is 2. You can run single player games on your
own computer, no point in running them on public server
Player authentication
These servers use player authentication. First time you login with new
username you are asked password twice, both Password and
Confirm password. Set your new password there. That's all you need
to do to register. If it asks password just once, that username is already
taken.
Results
After the game has finished, some results from it are published at
http://www.cazfi.net/~freeciv/games/ in a directory named after the game ID.
At the time of writing, the final savegame is the only thing that goes there.
Technical detail
If you are looking for help to run your own public Freeciv servers, check
hosting page.
